    A safer Montenegro: Ammunition storage in Brezovik upgraded

    Continuing its efforts to reduce the threat of proliferation of SALW and their ammunition, SEESAC completed the security upgrades on the Montenegro Armed Forces’ Brezovik ammuniton depot. Makring the completion of upgrades at three storage buildings – with storage capacities of 400 tonnes each – the works were handed over during a ceremony that took place on 14 November 2014 at the site.

    After the global launch in Tokyo in July, Montenegro had the privilege to host regional presentation of the UNDP’s flagship publication- Global Human Development Report 2014. Entitled “Sustaining Human Progress: Reducing Vulnerabilities and Building Resilience”, the Report provides a human development perspective on vulnerability and proposes ways to strengthen resilience.

    Women Entrepreneurship Open Day

    The main aim of the event is to enable direct contact and cooperation between representatives of business sector and women who are starting their own businesses, in order to facilitate networking, information sharing and expression of interests for financing some of 55 business plans that will be presented at the event. Business plans were developed by women from 4 municipalities in Montenegro – Cetinje, Kolašin, Mojkovac and Pljevlja.

    Montenegro got its first Indicator-based State of the Environment Report

    Instead of descriptive information, future reports on the state of the environment in Montenegro will offer specific information, based on the national list of indicators. The first such report, covering the period from 2009 to 2012, was presented by the Agency for Environmental Protection at a conference devoted to the creation of the National list of environmental indicators and the first Indicator-based State of the Environment Report in Montenegro.

    The citizens of Montenegro within the process of EU accession

    High level of citizen support to the European integration of Montenegro does not necessarily mean a high level of understanding of the process itself. It is very important that citizens have timely and quality information about the EU, to understand the EU's system of values and standards and to know that the change has not been imposed by Brussels but is an internal need for reforms that lead to an improved quality of life, it was said at a roundtable discussion organized on the draft 2014-2018 Strategy for informing the public about the EU and Montenegro's preparations for membership.

    UN agencies under one roof in Montenegro

    President of Montenegro Filip Vujanović and Deputy UN Secretary-General Jan Eliasson officially opened the UN Eco building, the first of its kind in the region. The building brings together UNDP, UNICEF, UNHCR and IOM to work under one roof within the Delivering as One framework.

A joint venture of the Government of Montenegro and UNDP – the Centre for Sustainable Development was inaugurated with an inspiring goal, so that what we do today has a positive impact on generations to come. The establishment of the Centre was very timely bearing in mind the demanding requirements of the EU accession.     Podgorica gets its first day care centre for children with disabilities

    Children with disabilities and their parents living in the Capital City of Podgorica haven’t had much of a choice so far. In order to take care of their kids they either had to give up their jobs or to place their children in institutions. Things will change now. By 2015 Podgorica will obtain its first Day Care Centre for Children with Disabilities, which will facilitate the lives of those families and provide their children with favourable conditions for development and integration into the society.

    UNDP continues to support judicial reform in Montenegro

    Further strengthening of an independent, impartial and accountable judiciary remains a priority for Montenegro in the European integration process. „A higher level of efficiency of the judicial system will also strengthen the quality of respect for human rights and the rule of law and it will create a favorable environment for foreign investment,“ said Deputy Prime Minister and Justice Minister of the Government of Montenegro Duško Marković at the opening of the public hearing on the draft 2014 – 2018 Judicial Reform Strategy.

Grey economy 0%“ was launched at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Podgorica by inviting the citizens of Montenegro to report fiscal receipt abuse, black market labor or violation of consumers' rights, as well as to redirect the money from informal economy towards social responsibility purposes.
