Participants in the seminar will be representatives of the Energy Sector of the Ministry of Economy, Electric Power Company of Montenegro, Functional Unit - Distribution, as well as representatives of the Electric Power Company of Serbia. The seminar will be attended by representatives of energy companies in Montenegro, representatives of international banks and investors who were awarded the concession for the construction of small hydropower plants in Montenegro. The seminar aims to present an overview of current and planned activities and projects carried out in order to create conditions for the development of energy infrastructure for the producers.
The Energy Policy of Montenegro defines three main priorities of the energy sector as: sustainable energy development, the development of a competitive energy market and security of supply. One of main objectives for the achievement of these priorities is to increase the use of renewable energy. With the adoption of the Strategy of Energy Development in 2007, Montenegro started work on creating a positive environment for the development of projects in the field of renewable energy. As part of the support to these efforts, since 2008 UNDP together with the Ministry of Economy, has been implementing the project “Reform of the energy sector for the promotion of small hydropower plants in Montenegro”, funded by the Global Environment Facility - GEF. For more details on this project, as well as on other activities in the field of renewable energy sources in Montenegro, please visit the website of the Ministry of Economy for renewable energy sources: http://www.oie-res.me/
The Study on Distributed Source Connection and Operation in the Electric Power System of Montenegro defines technical requirements, methods of connection and assessment of investment needed for the connection of concrete projects (small hydro power plants, wind mills, solar power plants, etc.) to the power system. The study was prepared by the Slovenian Institute “Milan Vidmar”, in cooperation with representatives of the Electric Power System of Montenegro, Montenegrin transmission system, and the Department of Energy of the Ministry of Economy.
